PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register)
A public register that records loans secured against things like cars. It shows if money is still owed on a vehicle before you buy it.
The PPSR is a government register in New Zealand that records security interests over personal property, including cars. When a lender gives you a secured car loan, they register their interest on the PPSR.
This does two things. It protects the lender by making their claim public, and it protects buyers by letting anyone check whether a car still has money owing on it.
Before buying a used car privately, it is worth doing a PPSR check. If the car has finance registered against it and the seller has not paid it off, the lender could repossess it even after you have bought it.
When you finance a car through one of our lenders, the PPSR registration is handled as part of the loan. Once you pay the loan off, the interest is removed. See how it works.
